I don’t know about all of you, but fall is quite possibly my favorite season. Despite all of the complaining that I do about Illinois weather, I’m grateful to be in a state where we get to experience the four seasons at one point or another. The smell of a bonfire on a crisp night, cuddled up in an oversized hoodie with a hot cup of apple cider in my hands = night made.
So yes, this Apple Cider Margarita is a bit different than my norm for a fall drink being that it is cold. My husband and kids will drink apple cider cool, but I only like mine hot -preferably with a little bit of whipped cream and cinnamon sprinkled on top. A couple weeks ago I actually made a trip to the grocery store for the sole purpose of getting whipped cream to top off my cup of hot cider -Ben looked at me like I was nuts. Hey, I want what I want?!
Anyhow, this recipe came about on a night that we were hosting a football game after party; a Football Fiesta if you will. Tacos, chips and salsa, obviously a margarita would fit in as the signature drink, except margaritas make me think of summertime, not fall time. What better way to throw a fall twist on a summer drink than to add some apple cider? Boom. The Apple Cider Margarita was born.

Since I was making this for a party, my first attempt at this drink was done in bulk. One of my friends at the party wanted the recipe to make for her husband’s birthday party in the following weeks. Of course, I didn’t bother with measurements the first time around and was just throwing things in until I thought it tasted good. Today, I made a single serving (12 oz glass) for the sole purpose of recording the ingredients. If you’ve got a party -I’ll let you do the math ;-). I’m terrible at calculating things like this because I never want to run out and therefore I always end up with way too much left over!
When I made this as a large batch I also added in some Mandarin Orange Sparkling Water, extra sugar, and cut up a couple apples and oranges that I let sit in the large drink dispenser. If you are using a sweet apple cider, you can likely skip the extra sugar…if it is more tart then you might want to add it.
